As contemporary Irish life bustles all around, life slows down upon visiting an ancient Holy Well.
Centuries have passed and yet still we walk the path that leads to these places of peace, tranquility, healing and worship again and again, always receiving.
Brigids name means Exalted One. A daughter of the Dagda(chief of the Gods in
ancient Ireland). Also a Goddess of the Tuatha De Danann, the fairy people. Some
of Brigids attributes, Brigids Cloak,
Brigids Cross, Brigids Flame. The Cloak (often a piece of cloth) was put
outside overnight on 31st January and Brigid would bless it during
the night, then it was used for healing. February 1st is Saint
Brigids Day. Brigids cross is made of
rushes and kept in houses for protection.
Brigids Flame, Brigid kept a flame continuously burning at the convent
she founded and this has been re-established and is now continuously burning. A patron of midwifery, fertility, poetry,
music, smithcraft, fire and inspiration to name a few.
