Saint/Goddess of the Bees Well Water Pendant St. Gobnait

As contemporary Irish life bustles all around, life slows down upon visiting an ancient Holy Well. 

Centuries have passed and yet still we walk the path that leads to these places of peace, tranquility, healing and worship again and again, always receiving. 

This water pendent contains water from St. Gobnaits Well in the depths of Irelands rich countryside.

She is the patron saint of bees and beekeepers… (she is also the patron saint of Dún Chaoin, a locality which is west of Dingle in Co.Kerry).  Saint Gobnait lived in the 6th century and would bee the christianised version of the pagan Goddess Gobnait. 

She hugely benefited mankind and had a deep lifelong affinity with bees and beekeeping.

She was well known as a healer and she dedicated her life to helping the poor and the sick, using the bees and their curative honey in the treatment of wounds and illness.  There are stories recounted where the bees would have helped her with defending her people, her abbey or those who came to her for help. One relates how the bees turned into soldiers to help stave off an attack in the locality.

Gobnait is the Irish translation of the hebrew name Deborah which means ‘Honey Bee’.  In prehistoric times it was though the soul left the body as a bee or butterfly.
